COUNCIL APOLOGISES FOR INCONVENIENCE TO MOTORISTS AS NEW N7 ROADWORKS BEGIN AND ASKS DRIVERS TO BE PATIENT
Tuesday 1st May 2007: South Dublin County Council apologises to commuters for the delays and inconvenience this morning at the N7/Red Cow Interchange, the Naas road and Longmile road areas, as a result of new local traffic diversions that began this morning. The combination of unexpected delays in the implementation of the new local diversions and driver unfamiliarity with the diversion works led to severe congestion on the road network in the Clondalkin and Walkinstown areas.
Frank Coffey, Director of Transportation, South Dublin County Council says the Council, the Garda, and the M50 contractor, SIAC/Ferrovial will continue to monitor and review the current traffic arrangements and will take any additional steps that can be taken to minimise the inconvenience to motorists.
Drivers are requested to obey all traffic signs, signals and particularly observe the rules with regard to keeping yellow boxes clear. Blocking the yellow boxes prevents other motorists from proceeding through the junction and adds to delays for everyone.
The construction programme to build a free-flowing Interchange at the N7 involves major road-works and cannot be completed without some inconvenience to commuters and motorists, says Frank Coffey. Road users should be aware of this and reschedule their journeys where possible, to take delays into account.
