MOTORISTS ASKED TO SLOW DOWN AND HEED MAJOR NEW LOCAL DIVERSIONS AT N7 (RED COW INTERCHANGE) FROM TUESDAY NEXT 1ST MAY 2007, AS PART OF M50 UPGRADE

Friday 27th April 2007: Motorists are advised to slow down on their approach to the N7/Red Cow Interchange as the 2nd Stage new traffic layouts will be in place from next Tuesday 1st May at 6.00am to facilitate the M50 Upgrade Scheme.  These major road works are an essential part of building the new freeflowing N7 Interchange.  Motorists will need to allow more time on their journeys, slow down and be prepared for local delays while these works on going on, says Frank Coffey, Director of Transportation, South Dublin County Council.

The following changes will come into effect on Tuesday 1st May;

  • The western side of the N7 roundabout will be removed.
  • N7 outbound traffic wishing to travel north on the M50 will have to u-turn at the new traffic lights at the Luas Car-Park and travel back east on the N7 to access the M50 north bound on ramp.
  • M50 northbound traffic wishing to travel towards the City will have to travel west on the N7 and then u-turn at the new traffic lights and travel east on the N7.
  • Monastery Road will be closed from the IBIS Hotel Entrance to the N7. Traffic from Clondalkin will access the N7 via the widened, and now two-way, Monastery Lane.
  • Pedestrians coming from Clondalkin will access LUAS via Monastery Lane from where they can cross the N7 at the traffic lights.
  • The inbound Bus-Stop at the IBIS Hotel will be relocated to Monastery Lane.

The local diversions will be clearly signposted and were asking motorists to slow down and pay attention to the new routes, says Frank Coffey, Director of Transportation, South Dublin County Council.  When completed, the N7 (Red Cow) Interchange will be free flowing, with no traffic lights or roundabout.
