South Dublin County Finals 2007 Enterprising Success! Presentations by the Mayor Mr Eamon Maloney SDCC and Mr Loman OByrne CEO South Dublin County Enterprise Board.

 

 

Over 100 students from secondary schools around the county showcased their business products and ideas at a lively Student Enterprise Awards County Final in Coliste de hde Tallaght last Friday 9th March. Entertained by D.J Stuart and with traditional music courtesy of Colaiste de hde, the atmosphere was buzzing enhanced by a variety of prizes, quiz, teachers draw and some interesting goodies

 

As well as cash prizes amounting to over 1200, winners were presented with medals and beautiful Trophies sponsored by the Echo, while all finalists received Finalists Cerficates.

 

The winning project (1st place) in each category will represent South County Dublin in the National Finals of the Student Enterprise Awards in Tullamore on 13th May 2007.

 

In the Junior Category, 1st prize went to Jems run by Jennifer OBrien, Emily Meehan and Stephanie OBrien of Loretto High School Beaufort. This business involves the production, promotion and sale of hair accessories, original Masai crafts as well as some Indian products. Their product range is artistically displayed and includes jewellery, kitchen accessories, rugs and boxes using beautiful natural materials.

 

In the Intermediate Category, 1stprize and Most Innovative went to BINFOTAGTM run by Neil Brehony and Tim Hogan of Coliste anna, Ballyroan. No strangers to the competition, Neil & Tim took the Junior Award in 2006 with The Green Book with which they went on to take the Most Innovative Award at National level as well as the Beautiful South County Dublin Award. Keeping to the recycling theme, this year their project is a protective cover for your bin tag which attaches onto the bin handle. The product also lets councils communicate with the customer by taking the tag and leaving information in the BINFOTAGTM

 

 

In the Senior Category, 1st prize went to GlobeSpeakDesign set up by Eoin Kelleher, David OKeefe & Kevin Schley of Colaiste Eanna Ballyroan. Spanish Revision Cards and Christmas cards are two of their current products with research underway for a further product.

 

Other winners included The Basketball Bin ( Leo Aungier from Colaiste Eanna) and LSK Childrens Art Programme (Lesley Humphreys, Kellie Nwaokorie & Shauna OConnor from St Josephs College, Lucan) who were awarded Most Innovative prizes in their categories.

 

Runner Up Awards were presented to D-Shirts set up by Daragh McCarthy and Real Politics set up by Cian Fitzgerald & Donal Ahern, all from Colaiste Eanna.

Best Displays in their categories went to OCM ( Lorna OConnor & Emma Metcalfe from Loreto High School, Beaufort), Donovans Homemade Jams

( Mark Donovan from Colaiste Eanna) and Funky Jewellery by Tien Mih Yep, Hafsat Gambo & Madeeha Adbar from St Josephs College Lucan.

 

 

The presentations were made by the Mayor Mr Eamon Maloney SDCC and Mr Loman OByrne CEO South Dublin County Enterprise Board.

 

The County Awards are organised and funded by South Dublin County Enterprise Board who are grateful to their main sponsor, The Echo Newspaper, as well as Leonidas and Boots who contributed to the event, the hard work and dedication of teachers and judges and the provision of the excellent facilities at Colaiste de hIde.
