6,280,000 plastic bottles recycled in South Dublin in 2006.Figures for South Dublin rise by almost 40 per cent.

The Council presently have 9 bring bank sites in the county provided for the recycling of plastic bottles at the following locations .These sites are serviced regularly by Oxigen on the Councils behalf.

1                     Car park of The Mill Shopping Centre, Clondalkin Village

2                     Car park of Corkagh Park, Clondalkin

3                     Car park of Griffeen Valley Park, Newcastle Road, Lucan

4                     Car Park of Quarryvale Community Centre, Clondalkin

5                     Car park of Molloys Pub, Tallaght village

6                     Car Park of Sean Walsh Park, Parks Depot, Tallaght

7                     Car park of Tymon Park, Wellington Lane, Templeogue

8                     Fettercairn Community Centre, Tallaght

9                     Whitechurch Shopping Centre, Ballyboden

The attached report which is from Oxigen outlines the figures for the years 2005/2006 for South Dublin County Council. The tonnage figure of 314.01 tonnes appears quite small, however, Oxigen tell us that 1 kilo of plastic accounts for 20 plastic bottles. 314 metric tonnes equals 314,000 kilos of plastic and therefore when multiplied by 20, this represents 6,280,000 plastic bottles. This is up considerably on 2005, which accounted for 194.5 tonnes of plastic or 3,890,000 plastic bottles
