Press Release

25 January 2007

South Dublin County water quality is good.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in its Report of Drinking Water 2005 released today, states that the quality of drinking water in South Dublin County is good. South Dublin County Council has an overall rate of compliance is 99.2%, which is above the national average. Water is monitored for chemical and microbiological values. There are no private or public group water schemes in the County.

South Dublin County Council supplies water to almost a quarter of a million people, according to Mary Pyne, Director of Environmental Services in South Dublin. She said a total of seventy million litres of water is distributed every day through the one thousand two hundred kilometres of water pipe network. Water is monitored on a monthly basis and the results are placed on the Councils website www.southdublin.ie on the environment page. We are delighted with the very high rate of water compliance in the County and congratulate the staff who work in this area.

The conservation of water is important and information on water conservation can be found on the website www.taptips.ie . This site gives information on simple ways of reducing water loss.
