OFFICIAL OPENING OF TALLAGHT LEISURE CENTRE
ON 23rd JANUARY 2007 at 4.30pm
Tallaght Leisure Centre was officially opened on Tuesday, 23rd January, 2007 at 4.30pm, by the Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr. Eamonn Maloney, in the presence of Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Mr. John O Donoghue, T.D.
Tallaght Leisure Centre incorporates a 25 metre swimming pool with moveable floor to allow greater access and flexibility, a fully air conditioned gymnasium with the most modern up to date equipment, all with integrated T Vs.
This facility also houses a caf area and changing village. Upstairs, there are 2 dance and aerobic studios, steam and sauna suites and a Sports Hall, which is of professional basketball size with a spectator viewing area.
Tallaght Leisure Centre, which is being managed by South County Dublin Leisure Services Limited on behalf of South Dublin County Council, opened its doors to the public on 13th November 2006. It caters for a wide range of activities including swimming, hip-hop classes, dances and drama, indoor football, Pilates, martial arts, badminton, kick boxing and many more.
Also housed within the centre is the Sport Teic Training Programme which is a joint initiative between the Council and FAS which this year sees 25 trainees being prepared for employment in the Sports & Leisure industry and indeed many graduates of the course are now employed in Tallaght Leisure Centre.
This facility was constructed at a cost of 16.8m, 4.8m of which was grant aided by the Department of Arts, Sports & Tourism and the balance funded by South Dublin County Council. The project was managed by the Architects Department of South Dublin County Council, in particular Eddie Conroy, Senior Architect and Jillian Geraghty, Project Architect and constructed by Rohcon Limited.
