SDCC plans improvements in 2007 for the domestic refuse collection service
South Dublin County Council provides an integrated Waste Management Service to over 84,000 households in South Dublin County and also to 1,300 non-domestic customers.
Waste Management Services include household waste collection, collection of dry and recyclable waste on a four-weekly cycle, supply of home composters, programmed junk collection and the provision of a network of Bring Banks for glass, cans, etc.
Plans for 2007, include the development and commissioning of the Regional Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), which will facilitate the introduction of plastic bottles for collection into the dry recyclables waste stream. The four Dublin Councils (who manage this Recycling Contract on a regional basis) are currently working on the introduction of the MRF, considering issues of frequency of collection and related costs.
In addition in 2007, a tender process will be progressed in respect of a Biowaste Facility which will be built at Ballyogan. This is being dealt with by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in whose functional area the facility will be located.
The expansion of the Councils Bring Bank network will continue in 2007. Additions in December 2006, included 2 new Bring Banks installed at Corkagh Park and at Lucan s Spa Hotel. This brings the number of Bring Banks in our County to 50 in total.
The work of the Environmental Awareness Officer will be supported in 2007 by the appointment of an Assistant Environmental Awareness Officer which will facilitate the expansion of the Councils programme of awareness building in Waste management and Environmental matters.
