Leo Swan Memorial Lecture Wednesday 18th October 2006
The 6th Annual Leo Swan Memorial Lecture will take place at The County Library in Tallaght on Wednesday 18th October 2006 at 8.00 pm. Mayor Eamonn Maloney of South Dublin County Council will introduce the lecture.
Leo Swan who died in 2001 is fondly remembered in the Tallaght area as an encouraging teacher and former Principal of Our Lady of Loreto Primary School. He was also a founder member of Tallaght Historical Society. While teaching he was involved in archaeological investigations and in lecturing on archaeology. He was a pioneer of archaeological investigation using aerial photography.
In the early 1990s he gave up teaching to concentrate fulltime on archaeology. He led the archaeological excavation at Templeogue House where he discovered early Irish glass.
The lecture fittingly takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of October, the date of the October lecture of Tallaght Historical Society.
This years lecture will be given by Matthew Stout, a lecturer at St Patricks College Drumcondra and is entitled Early Christian Society and Settlement, a topic dear to the late Leo Swan.
All are welcome and entry is free.
