Book Launch
Glenasmole Roads by Patrick Healy
Wednesday 30th August 2006 @ 7:00 p.m.
St. Annes G.A.A. Club, Bohernabreena
In October 2003, the Local Studies Section of the County Library in Tallaght was granted a most extraordinary gift by Peter Healy access to the manuscripts of his brother, the late Paddy Healy. They contain the insightful comments of a noted field archaeologist and great teacher who had meticulously researched the areas, walked the routes and observed the sites about which he wrote. They were prepared as notes for lectures to be given to a wide variety of groups such as local history societies, student groups, etc. At least two of the manuscripts were prepared by Paddy with a view to publication.
In order to make Paddy Healys work available to as many as possible, it was decided in the first instance to publish these manuscripts as bound typescripts, making them available for reference in South Dublin County Libraries, in the Local Studies collections of neighbouring library authorities and in the legal deposit libraries. Copies were also supplied to South Dublin schools as a reference resource. The Tallaght section of this book was published by South Dublin Libraries in July 2004 as All Roads Lead to Tallaght and Rathfarnham Roads was published in 2005.
On Wednesday 30th August Mayor Eamonn Maloney will launch the third book to be taken from Paddy Healys manuscripts, Glenasmole Roads. Copies will be on sale in all branches of South Dublin County Libraries from Thursday 31st August.
In conjunction with the publication of the book, and as part of South Dublin County Libraries Heritage Week Programme, Aoife OTierney will lead a guided walk of Bohernabreena Reservoir on Sunday 3rd September, courtesy of Dublin City Council. This event is free and all are welcome - meet at the main entrance to the reservoir at 2:00 p.m.
