Pride of Place Competition

Judging took place on Monday 24^th July in the two entries from South Dublin County Council - Castle Park/Castle Lawns and Fettercairn. This is the first time that any group from the County have got involved in this all island competition.

Both communities made great efforts to build a community spirit, improve their neighbourhood while enjoying themselves. Residents got involved in planting, litter picking, painting walls and maintaining flower beds and containers. Activities also included training events, visits to Botanic Gardens and arranging community events.

All of this led to a Pride of Place which was very evident when residents, estate management staff from South Dublin County Council and others made a presentation to the judges on the story of their place. Residents then brought the judges on a walkabout to point out the changes in the areas.

Pride of Place is hosted by Cooperation Ireland and in 2005 over ninety groups entered the competition from North and South of the island. Results of the competition will be announced at an awards ceremony in October 2006.
