SDCC impounds vehicles carrying textile waste
South Dublin County Council has been concerned for some time about organisations carrying out door to door collections of clothes and footwear without proper waste collection permits.
Following intensive investigations starting in late 2005 by the Waste Enforcement Section, South Dublin County Council has Impounded 8 vehicles which were allegedly involved in the illegal collection and
transportation of textile waste. The owners of these vehicles have also been obliged to pay for the disposal of this waste at a licensed waste facility.
Council officials wish to remind householders that old clothes/textiles/footwear etc. are regarded as waste and any individual or company collecting such waste by means of a door to door collection must hold valid waste collection permits which, in the Dublin Region are issued by Dublin City Council. Householders are entitled to ask any organisation, collecting clothes/textiles/footwear etc. to produce their valid waste collection permit for inspection by the householder.
