Mayor Therese Ridge on behalf of the Members of South Dublin County Council will officially open the new recycling bring centre at Quarryvale on Monday 26th June at 12pm.

Residents of the area and beyond will now be able to play a serious role in the recycling of four major items, namely Glass, plastic, Cans and textiles. As a result, significant volumes of these materials will no longer take up precious landfill space and as well as that the materials will be reused for the betterment of the environment

South Dublin County Council now operates about 50 of these centres and it is a tribute to the management of the Community Centre and local residents that they have facilitated the establishment of this new centre in this area.

Nearly 4,000 tons of recyclable material are now deposited every year at the recycling banks around the county including 4.5 million plastic bottles. The importance of having diverted all this material from landfill cannot be over estimated. When we take into account the additional 14,000 tons of material that is collected in the Green bins the story is even better. This success story has helped Ireland as a country to achieve the ambitious recycling targets which have been set for her by the European Union. Every household in South Dublin has contributed in some way to this achievement.
