Notice of temporary closure of Basketball arena Footbridge in Tymon North

Kildare County Council, acting on behalf of South Dublin County Council under a Section 85 Agreement (Local Government Act 2001), hereby gives notice, in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, that it will close the footbridge described as follows:

Footbridge to be Closed: National Basketball Arena Footbridge which traverses the M50 and is located in Tymon North, Co. Dublin

Date of Closure: For a period of eight weeks from Friday, 24 June to Friday, 19 August 2022.

Hours of Closure: 24hrs a day

This closure is required to facilitate the rehabilitation of National Basketball Arena footbridge.

Diversion Routes:

Westbound Traffic: Pedestrians/cyclists shall exit Tymon Park onto the R137 Tallaght Road and travel westwards along the footpath, through the underpasses carrying the M50/N81 junction, over the footbridge crossing the M50 and through two further underpasses carrying the M50/N81 junction (approx. 440m) to Tymon Lane where they turn right and travel for approx. 115m at which point they re-enter Tymon Park where the diversion ends.

Eastbound Traffic: Pedestrians/cyclists shall exit Tymon Park onto Tymon Lane and travel south for approx. 115m where they turn left and travel eastwards along the footpath, through the underpasses carrying the M50/N81 junction, over the footbridge crossing the M50 and through two further underpasses carrying the M50/N81 junction (approx. 440m) at which point they re-enter Tymon Park where the diversion ends.

There will be no through traffic across the National Basketball Arena Footbridge during this period. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Pedestrians/cyclists are strongly advised to use the diversion routes as identified and only use permanent/temporary pedestrian crossings as provided along the diversion route. Cyclists are advised to dismount over the extents of the diversion route.

Vehicular traffic on the M50 will not be impacted by this closure.
