Mayor Therese Ridge on behalf of South Dublin County Council will officially launch a new Sli na Slainte route in St. Cuthbert’s Park on Thursdau 25th May at 2pm.

New Slí na Sláinte route will put St. Cuthbert’s Park on the path to health!

“Walking is a fun way for people to get fit, and to stay fit, as part of a healthier lifestyle”. That was the message being conveyed by the Irish Heart Foundation at the launch of the Slí na Sláinte in St. Cuthbert’s Park on Thursday, May 25th 2006. Developed by the Irish Heart Foundation, South Dublin County Council and the local community, the Slí na Sláinte  (“Path to Health”) is an outgoing way to make walking for leisure and good health even more enjoyable.

Marked by colourful posts which are not numbered and which are situated at 1km intervals, walkers simply follow the Km signs, setting their own pace as they go.  With physical inactivity being one of the main risk factors for heart disease, using a Slí na Sláinte walking route is an excellent way to accumulate 30 minutes of physical activity, on most days of the week.

The St. Cuthbert’s Park Slí is 2km long around the perimeter of the park, starting at the main entrance near the seating area and children’s mural. The route is the 11th Slí na Sláinte to be developed in Dublin and the 142nd to be developed in Ireland.

……, the Mayor of South Dublin County Council  said  ‘We were delighted to work with the Irish Heart Foundation on this project, the Slí route is a great addition to the community and a wonderful amenity for the people of the area’

Tanya Comber-Rait, National Coordinator of Slí na Sláinte at the Irish Heart Foundation said, “We are delighted to open the new Sli na Slainte in St Cuthberts Park. It is important that adults engage in 30 minutes of physical activity, preferably on a daily basis, as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Walking is an ideal way to do just that. It keeps your heart strong, improves muscle strength and makes you feel good,  above all walking is fun. So our message to everyone now is… ‘Let’s Go Walking”.
