REGISTRATION OF QUARRIES
South Dublin County Council wishes to inform owners and operators of Quarries in South Dublin County that Section 261 of the Planning and Development Act, 2000, which deals with the control of quarries came into effect on 28th April, 2004.

Guidelines on Quarries and Ancillary Activities have been published by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. The Guidelines areavailable on its website at www.environ.ie.

All quarries in the administrative area of South Dublin County, other than these for which planning permission has been granted in the five years prior to the 28th April 2004, are required to be registered with South Dublin County Council on or before 27th April, 2005.

It should be noted that failure to provide information in relation to the operations of a quarry to which the Section relates will result in the quarry being deemed to be unauthorised development and therefore subject to Enforcement Proceedings under the Planning Acts, irrespective of the previous legal status of the operation.

Application forms for registration are available from the Planning Department, South Dublin County Council, County Hall, Town Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24, Telephone 01 4149250.
