M50
Motorway Upgrade Scheme
Dun
Laoghaire Rathdown County Council by agreement with South Dublin County
Council, Fingal County Council and Dublin City Council under section 59 of the
Local Government Act, 1955 has prepared an environmental impact statement in
respect of the M50 Motorway Upgrade Scheme 2004.
The scheme comprises the addition of a third lane in each direction on
the M50 over a distance of 31km between the M1 and Sandyford together with the
provision of auxiliary weaving lanes between the M1 and Scholarstown, generally
within the existing motorway boundaries.
Modifications to ten interchanges will provide full or partial free flow for
the principal turning movements and the Westlink toll plaza will be upgraded to
a fully electronic free flow toll facility.

Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has applied to An Bord Pleanála for approval
of the proposed road development under section 51 of the Roads Acts, 1993 and
1998 (as amended by the Planning and Development Act, 2000).
A copy of the environmental impact statement may be inspected on working
days between Thursday 23rd September 2004 and Tuesday 26th October
2004 inclusive at the following locations and times:

Written
submissions in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the
proposed road development may be made to An Bord Pleanála, 64 Marlborough
Street, Dublin 1 on or before Friday 12th November 2004.
A
motorway scheme has been made in respect of the proposed road development and
an oral hearing will be held in relation to that scheme.
Evidence in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the
proposal may be given at the oral hearing.
Before
making its decision on the application for approval, the Board must consider
the environmental impact statement, any written submissions made to it and not
withdrawn and, where an oral hearing is held, the report and any recommendation
of the inspector holding the oral hearing where evidence was given in relation
to the likely effects on the environment of the proposal.
Public notice of any oral hearing will be given at a later date.
