Architectural Design: |
The design was generated by the necessity to provide a community centre and housing as per the brief from the Housing & Community Department. Consultation with representatives from community bodies was undertaken over a period. The design was presented to a full public meeting and substantial changes were requested. The design response to the consultation process included reducing the housing by 20% [ 45% reduction from initial design proposals ], retaining the junior pitch with sufficient circulation space and reducing the open used by the development. The most significant alteration to the design, following the Public Meeting, was the placing of the new community centre behind a screen of new housing and thus reducing the impact on existing houses on Whitechurch Way. |
