Bealtaine May 2006 Celebrating ‘creativity in older age’.
The annual Bealtaine festival takes place throughout the month of May. Bealtaine, a national festival aims to celebrate ‘creativity in older age’ and has this year chosen the theme ‘From Hand to Hand – The Creative Exchange’ in order to draw attention to the role of older people in transmitting art and culture, in defining and communicating what are the essential and important elements in our culture for younger people.
South Dublin County Libraries has an extensive programme of events taking place in the branch libraries during the course of the month. Some highlights include the launch of ‘Seagulls’ the latest book of poetry from widely published South Dublin writer Eileen Casey with readings from young award winning American poet Karyna McGlynn and readings from members of St. Colmcille’s Writers’ Group. Also featured will be Maria Wallace, the 2005 winner of the Sunday Tribune/Hennessy award for ‘Emerging Poetry’ and a resident of South Dublin County. Dardis Clarke will speak about his father Austin Clarke’s connections with South Dublin County and other events will range from the topical – Money Doctor John Lowe talking about personal finance including SSIAs – to the more traditional including ‘Introduction to Quilting’. Visit your local branch library to pick up a full programme of events or log on to www.southdublinlibraries.ie.
