Mayor Therese Ridge presents prizes to winners of the Tallaght Drug Task Force poster competition

Mayor Therese Ridge on behalf of South Dublin County Council will present prizes to the winners of the Tallaght Drugs Task Force Informal Sector Poster/Poetry Competition “Building Healthy Communities” On Monday 20th February  at 5.45pm. in County Hall Tallaght.

The aim of the poster competition is to raise awareness of social and personal skills required by the children and young people to prevent substance misuse and abuse in the Tallaght Task Force community. Rather than focus on drug use/misuse the entrants are asked to convey an anti-drugs message in the context of healthy communities.  The poster/poetry competition which has run successfully for the past two years is aimed at schools. Because of the success of this competition it was decided to run a poster/poetry competition aimed at the informal sector (community and voluntary groups).

The competition is funded by Tallaght Local Drugs Task Force and run by the Tallaght Drugs Education and Prevention sub-group of Tallaght Local Drugs Task Force.

• Focus on alternatives to drug taking and building healthy communities. For example the range of activities, clubs, sports and other groups available in communities in Tallaght.
• The rewards and fun to be had from a hobby.
• Emphasise the positive choices most young people make in relation to drugs.
• Emphasise healthy living.
• Highlight the importance of having pride in your community and the need to represent your community in a positive manner.
• We also want to recognise the life skills that young people need to develop to become good members of their community.
