Mayor Therese Ridge on behalf of South Dublin County Council will officially open the All-Weather pitch at Clondalkin Community Centre on Tuesday 31st January at 7.30 pm.

The All –Weather pitches have been constructed on the site of the former tennis courts It is an important objective of the County Council to locate as many active sports facilities as possible, close to the Clondalkin Community Centre.  With this in mind and recognising the potential of the tennis courts for further development, the Community Centre  Management Company (in association with the County Council) made an applications for Sports Capital for the development of All -Weather Pitches on the site. In 2005 the application was successful and grant approval was received for €300,000 towards the project.
A further €200,000 was allocated towards the project by local Clondalkin councillors as part of the Member’s Discretionary Fund programme.
The four pitches which have been provided here are enclosed self contained units with a surface consisting of rubber/sand filled carpet which provides a “real turf” experience for players.  One of the pitches has been retained for multi-sport use and has been marked out for tennis which no doubt will become more in demand as we progress to the summer.

It is hoped therefore that this facility will cater for a wide range of clubs and sports enthusiasts and will without a doubt add to the general health, wellbeing and enjoyment of the people of Clondalkin and the wider area.
