Turning of the first sod for the construction of a new swimming pool at Clondalkin.

The Mayor of South Dublin County, Councillor Therese Ridge today turned the ceremonial first sod for a new swimming pool at Nangor Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

The facility will include an 8 lane 25m pool complete with a moveable floor, a changing village, a gymnasium, a café and associated retail units.

This will be a ‘state of the art’ facility using modern technology including solar heating. When completed it will be the largest solar project in Ireland. The pool will stand out as one of the most energy efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable developments of its kind in Ireland.

The main contractor for the project is P.J. Walls Ltd. The contract period will be 18 months approximately.
The project, which will cost €12.7m is grant aided by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism in the sum of €3.8m and by Sustainable Energy Ireland in the sum of €112,764.
