South Dublin County Council response to Protest at County Hall 17/11/05

A protest by the Building & Allied Trades’ Union took place this morning outside the headquarters of South Dublin County Council at County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24.

Coinciding with the protest, a general press release/information leaflet was issued by those protesting which related to alleged ‘unsafe and unsanitary’ conditions on a construction site at Hazel Hill,

Blessington Road
, Tallaght.

Contrary to what is suggested by BATU, the Council is satisfied that conditions on site, including the presence of toilets, running water and drying facilities are adequate at this stage of site works development and are continually being reviewed and upgraded.

Furthermore, 24/7 on-the-spot security on this fenced site protects against any unwarranted encroachments by members of the public.  The Council is currently reviewing the requirements for fencing along the site access road in order to secure the maximum levels of safety and protection against unauthorised access to the site.

This contract is operating under the national standard form of contract and is governed by normal National and E. U. procurement regulations.  Fair wage and conditions of employment are clearly defined under the terms of contract and the Council will investigate any breaches of these clauses of the contract.
