Mayor Therese Ridge and Minister of State Frank Fahey will present certificates to participants of  South Dublin County Council Travellers Training/Employment Programme on Wednesday 16th November 2005 at 1pm in County Hall Tallaght.

South Dublin County Council started this initiative in March of this year and in conjunction with F.A.S. developed an exclusive and accredited training Programme for 12 young Travellers combining 3 days training at FAS with 2 days work experience with the County Council.

The programme began on the 11th of April 2005 and proved a tremendous success with 8 participants completing the Programme successfully with certificates in kerbing, paving and concreting in addition to the Safe pass and Manual handling course and is now in full time employment with the County Council.

To celebrate their achievement the presentation of their certificates will take place on Wednesday 16th November 2005 at 1.00 and the formal ceremony will be carried out by Minister of State, Department of Justice,  Equality and Law Reform Frank Fahey and Mayor of South Dublin County Council Councillor Therese Ridge.

It is hoped that the lessons learnt during the Programme particularly in the areas of communication, selection and training will form a model of best practice in providing employment opportunities to sections of our marginalised society. The success of the Programme will hopefully encourage other organizations and companies, both public and private, to adopt the processes developed and afford the same opportunities to marginalised groups within our society.
