Young people from South Dublin County take part in a European Seminar in .

 

 

South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg members travel to to attend a European Seminar in the Youth Education Centre in Bad Segeberg.

 

 

A delegation of young people from South Dublin County Comhairle na nÓg will travel to the Youth Education Centre in Bad Segeberg, at the kind invitation of the Council of Bad Segeberg, to participate in a Youth Seminar entitled “Dreams”.  They will be joined by delegations from , , and .  The aim of the seminar is to develop contact and communication between young people from different countries.  South Dublin County is twinned with the district of Bad Segeberg.

 

 

The programme of activities includes:

 

Ø      Information briefings in European political structures and administration

 

Ø      Workshops on the future of Europe

 

Ø      Cultural events

 

Ø      Visit to Government Buildings

 

 

South Dublin County Comhairle na nÓg was established in May 2002 to give young people a voice in their local community in line with the first objective of the National Children’s Strategy which is “to give young people a voice in matters which affect them in accordance with their age and maturity”.  Comhairle na nÓg is structured to mirror the format of the elected County Council and holds its meetings in the Council Chamber at County Hall, Tallaght.  There are twenty-six members of Comhairle na nÓg.  The members are aged between eleven and eighteen years.  Each member represents one of the five electoral areas in South Dublin County .  The Community Services Department of the Council is the secretariat for Comhairle na nÓg.

 

 

The Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr Therese Ridge wished the young people well on their visit to and she described the initiative as “very exciting, worthwhile and innovative”.

 

 

The young people will arrive in on the 24th of July and return to on the 3rd of August.
