Mayor Robert Dowds presents  Graduation Certificates to The Get Ahead Club in Neilstown Community Centre Wednesday 22nd June at 3.15 pm

Forty-five children graduated today from The Get Ahead Club, a community-based education project in north Clondalkin.  The children have been with the project for the last two years and the graduation ceremony marked the occasion for them as they come to the end of their time with the project.  During their time with The Get Ahead Club, the children took part in after-school support groups, breakfast clubs and summer programmes.  The ceremony took place in Neilstown Community Centre and guests included the children’s parents, teachers, school principals, community leaders and public representatives, including Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Robert Dowds.

Speaking at the graduation, Project Co-ordinator, Trevor Sweetman said “It’s great to see that the children have gained so much from the project, but it’s always sad to see them go.  We’re delighted that we were able to provide them with support and enjoyment over the years and I’m sure that they will have many happy memories of The Get Ahead Club.”

Operating since 1994, The Get Ahead Club has been recognised as a pioneering out-of-school support service and works with children aged 7-11 in all eight primary schools in north Clondalkin. In partnership with the local community and schools, The Get Ahead Club aims to support children at risk of being marginalised within the formal education system to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to maintain their participation and progression in school.  It is funded under the National Development Plan through a range of sources , including the Department of Education & Science and FÁS.  The Get Ahead Club is a registered charity and is managed by a committee made up of representatives from the community, voluntary and statutory sectors.
