South Dublin County Council set up a Tourism Task Force in April 2004, which resulted in the establishment of an interim South Dublin County Tourism Board.
The task of the interim Tourism Board was to formally establish South Dublin County Tourism Ltd. This Company was inaugurated on 11th January 2005.
The Company consists of 18 Directors representing the Elected Members of South Dublin County Council, the hoteliers, golf clubs, tourism organisations, shopping centres, cultural organisations and chamber of commerce in South Dublin County.
The following are the officers of the Board:
Chairperson: David Kennedy, The Echo Newspaper
Vice-Chairperson: Cllr. Máire Ardagh, South Dublin County Council
Secretary: Peter Byrne, South Dublin Chamber of Commerce
Treasurer: Michael McBennett, Rural Dublin LEADER
Marguerite Osborne, Tourism Executive was appointed on 16th May 2005 to facilitate the promotion, marketing and administration of the Company.
A Tourism Audit of the County was carried out which identifies the strengths and weaknesses of Tourism in South Dublin County. This audit will greatly assist the company in the preparation of its Action Plan.
The Tourism Company’s Mission Statement and objectives are as follows:
Mission Statement
South Dublin County Tourism Ltd is the County’s promotional, marketing and development Company for tourism in South Dublin County. It aims to develop and implement a sustainable tourism policy on behalf of the industry and enhance the image of South Dublin County as an interesting and enjoyable place to visit.
Objectives of South Dublin County Tourism Ltd.
- To Promote South Dublin County as a tourist destination in both the domestic and overseas market.
- Work in association with all other state agencies who are charged with improving South Dublin County as a Tourism destination.
- To encourage and assist the improvement of the tourism product in South Dublin County to the highest international standard.
- To seek new and high quality investment in the tourism industry in South Dublin County.
- To liaise and co-operate with Government Departments, State Agencies and all other bodies in the interest of Tourism in the County.
- To increase the level of awareness and appreciation of the value of the Tourism industry throughout South Dublin County.
