The Green Centre, Esker Lane, Lucan.

Under the existing Certificate of Registration, R261, issued by the E.P.A. for the Green Centre, Esker Lane, Lucan, South Dublin County Council is allowed to take in 5,000 tonnes of Green Waste per annum to their facility at Esker Lane, Lucan. This Green Waste is then shredded and composted. The certificate allows for 1,000 tonnes of compost to be held on site at any one time.

The Council has carried out a review of the amount of Green Waste that has arrived at the Green Centre in Esker Lane, Lucan so far this year (2005) and has concluded that the quota of 5,000 tonnes for this year has yet to be reached. In light of this, it has been decided to continue to accept commercial Green Waste in the short term as well as household Green Waste.

During this time, the Council will continue it’s discussions with the E.P.A., Bord na Mona, the other Dublin Local Authorities and Private Waste Contractors to find a destination for commercial Green Waste in the Dublin Region. The Council will continue to actively try to identify alternative sites for other Green Waste Facilities in South Dublin and will encourage the private sector to become involved.

In the short term, the Council will be applying to the E.P.A. for a Waste licence for the Green Centre in Esker Lane, Lucan in order that the intake of Green Waste to Esker may be increased.
