The Mayor of South Dublin County, Councillor Robert Dowds today performed the official Sod – Turning for the construction of the multi – million euro Tallaght Swimming Pool and Sports Hall.  The proposed development is located at Jobstown Park, West Tallaght and is the first development of it’s kind by South Dublin County Council.

Speaking at the ceremony the Mayor said that this was an historic day for the people of Tallaght and for the greater Tallaght region. He said that the facility when provided will be one of the most modern in the country, that it will add a very important piece of Community and Sporting infrastructure to that which is already provided, which will benefit an ever expanding population, 41% of which is under 25 years of age. He added that the Council had a good record of providing facilities for sporting and community activity and this project will further enhance that record.

He said that the Council took a positive approach to the project from the beginning and thanked the County Manager, the staff of the Community, Architects and Parks Departments and the elected Members, particularly the local Members, for their ongoing work and for their support.

He congratulated the contractor, Rohcon on obtaining the contract and wished them well with the development. He said he looked forward to seeing the finished product in about 18 months time.
