Mayor Robert Dowds will present prizes to the winners of the Special Olympics Network Competition in the Civic Offices Clondalkin, on Tuesday 22nd March at 5.30 pm

The competition was run in local schools and asked pupils to come up with a catchy name for the Clondalkin/Saggart/Rathcoole/Newcastle special olympics network.

The goals of the Special Olympics Network are:

·           To promote an increased public awareness about learning disabilities and the abilities and achievements of individuals with a learning disability

·           To promote awareness about Special Olympics Ireland

·           To help provide athletes and potential athletes with opportunities to choose and train in their own particular sport in preparation for competition

·           To offer social opportunities for athletes and potential athletes to meet and integrate with people in mainstream sports clubs around the island of Ireland, to experience their hospitality and provide an exchange that will enrich the lives of everyone involved

·           To help establish new Special Olympics Ireland clubs and support existing clubs/centres
