World Kenpo Karate Championships 2005 Basketball Arena Tallaght Saturday 19th March at 8.30 am.

Mayor Robert Dowds welcomes teams from Ireland and the four corners of the world to Tallaght and the World Kenpo Karate Championships 2005.

‘I would also like to extend a very warm welcome to Grand Master Larry Tatum to South Dublin.

It is a tremendous honour that the championship, being hosted outside the USA for the first time, will take place here in South Dublin at the National Basketball arena. South Dublin County Council is very happy to be associated with these championships.

South Dublin County Council recognises the huge voluntary effort, which has taken place over the last year to bring us all together here today. I understand that there have been endless meetings in little community centres and that the entire operation has been only made possible by the extensive use of email and the world-wide-web for communication and information. A World Championship is a tremendous undertaking and one that we are glad to have the opportunity to support.

I wish to congratulate the organisers, in particular the committee John Birch, Tony Dunne, Dan Gilligan, Vivion Spain and Pat Kennedy and to congratulate the many instructors who have travelled from more than 15 countries to participate in these Championships. I would also very much like to thank and congratulate the children and other participants on their skill and dedication. I hope that they will enjoy taking part in the tournaments and seminars and wish you all the very best of luck in your competitions.’
