Mayor Robert Dowds, South Dublin County Council in the presence of An Tanaiste, Mary Harney T.D., Minister for Health and Children will formally opened the new Lucan Sports Association Clubhouse at Griffeen Valley Park, Esker, Lucan on Saturday November 20th at 11am.

Lucan Sports Association Ltd. incorporates representatives from three sports clubs in the Lucan area namely Hillcrest Football Club, Lucan Harriers Athletic Club and Weston Hockey Club. Representatives from all three governing sports bodies will be in attendance at the opening along with many public officials and representatives from each of the three clubs.
The three clubs comprising Lucan Sports Association came together in 1998 with the common purpose of building a facility that would provide, showers, changing rooms, store rooms and meeting rooms for their members.

Lucan Sports Association has been in receipt of two allocations of funding totalling €340,000 from the Sports Capitol Programme which is overseen by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism. The balance of the finance required for this project was raised individually by members within each of the three clubs.

From the outset, this project has been actively supported and encouraged by South Dublin County Council who have been on hand to advise and have also provided €38,100 in financial assistance to the project.
It is hoped that this new facility will encourage the residents in the Lucan and surrounding areas to become actively involved with the three sports catered for by the three clubs involved. It is also hoped that the facilities of the clubhouse will also be availed of by small community groups for meetings.
