An arts seminar entitled 'Unlocking Creativity' was held in the autumn of last year, which explored the use of arts in community development from a participant's perspective and from an artist's perspective. Four art forms were experienced on the day by delegates (Music, Dance, Drama and Clay workshops) and a number of case studies demonstrated how community arts can be applied in exploring health issues, intergenerational collaborations and women accessing education.

The seminar explored ways of successfully using the arts in community development. Case studies raised awareness of different approaches, settings and art forms. Practical workshops gave participants the opportunity to investigate creative approaches to group work and problem solving.

Video 'Clay Changes'

The Unlocking Creativity Seminar profiled a creative health planning project

'Creative Clay Changes' which had been carried out in Quarryvale in North Clondalkin by local health researchers. This ten-minute video briefly outlines the aim, experience and outcomes of 'Creative Clay Changes' from the perspective of artist/facilitator and participants. It also shows how the same art form could be used exploring issues such as disability, new communities living in Ireland and good arts practice. The video will be of use to anyone interested in arts and community development and would be an aid to group discussions on how to begin or develop work in this field.
