Mayor Robert Dowds will Open the exhibition “100 years of local weddings” at Whitechurch Library on Monday 20th September 2004, at 11.00am

"Weddings have always been great  occasions for family celebration!  Wedding fashions are a great indicator of changing times -  just think of  the contrasts between the formality of the early 20th century, the austerity of the post-war era and the over-the-top flamboyance of 1980s Dynasty-style glamour.

The Social History Group has drawn on its collective memories and memorabilia to put together a fascinating  exhibition of 'Ballyboden Brides' spanning 100 years.

The exhibition, which will be formally opened by the Mayor of South Dublin, Cllr. Robert Dowds, at 11 am on Monday September 20th, marks at the start of the Whitechurch Library/WEB Project Open Week.  A full list of events planned for the week is on Page 15.  The Ballyboden Brides exhibition will remain open until Friday 29th. October.

Ballyboden Social History Group - who created the 'Village Quilt' on display in the Library - have already begun work on their next project, which is to be a book about the history of Ballyboden and the surrounding areas.   This should be published in 2005 and will include contributions from several well-known historians."
