Mayor Robert Dowds to Launch South Dublin County Trams Exhibition County Library

        Wednesday 8th September 7.30 pm

This exhibition was prepared by Joe Williams a well-known local historian, and a member of Clondalkin History Society. After the launch at 8.00pm, Joe will deliver an illustrated talk South Dublin County Trams.

The exhibition tells the histories of the the Dublin to Blessington Steam Tram and of the Lucan Tram from their foundations to their demise. These were important elements of transport infrastructure at their time. An interesting coincidence is that where the LUAS terminates in Tallaght, just outside the Council premises on the Old Blessington Road, is on the line taken by its forerunner, the Dublin to Blessington Steam Tram.

Joe Williams

The person responsible for this exhibition, Joe Williams has just retired from the service of South Dublin County Council. For the last 4 years Joe has worked in Lucan Library where he distinguished himself by his courtesy and his obliging nature. He is a model local historian who does not guard his knowledge and sources but is most willing to share them with all comers. He will be missed from the South Dublin Library service but the consolation is that he will have much more time for research. We hope that he will be able to share in the fruits of this additional research. I wish Joe all the best for a happy and fruitful retirement.
