Mayor Robert Dowds to meet the choir from Deansrath Community College, on Thursday 2nd September 2004.
Following an invitation received from Mr Georg Gorrissen, the County Manager of our twin town Kreis Segeberg in Germany, to attend a Choir Festival to be held in Polva, Estonia, from 11th August to 17th August. Judith Edmonds, South Dublin County Council, accompanied the choir from Deansrath Community College, who accepted the invitation to take part in the festival. The group consisted of twelve girls, whose ages ranged from 13 to 17. The group travelled via London to Germany, then on to Estonia.
It was a great opportunity for the young people from South Dublin to travel to this new member state of the European Union. They met with young people with shared interests from different cultures and backgrounds whilst showcasing the wealth of talent we have in our county. Choirs from Germany, Poland Estonia, Finland and Ireland took part in the festival
The choir travelled via London to Germany where they joined up with the choir from Bad Bramstead representing Germany. The two choirs then travelled on to Estonia. There was a full and varied programme, which included music, sport and cultural visits, for all of the young people and the official delegations, which gave the flavour of life in Estonia.
