Mayor Robert Dowds will present certificates at Partas Centre in Bolbrook, on Friday July 16th, at 10.15 a.m. The presentation will mark the completion of a Construction Training Course of the Tallaght Travellers Community Development Project.

“It will recognise the achievement of a group of young men from the Travelling Community who have successfully completed the course.”

This training programme for young Traveller men, is currently being delivered with the ongoing support of South Dublin County Council and the Tallaght Partnership.

The project developed this type of training initiative following the coming together of a multi-agency committee that attempted to address the issue of Traveller long-term unemployment and the lack of training provision of young Traveller men.

The group consisted of Maria Culbert (Adult Literacy Organiser CDVEC), Tom Lynham (Social Worker South Dublin County Council), Ann Rhattigan (Department of Education), Orla McCaffrey (Tallaght Travellers CDP), Yvonne Cusack (Partas), Rachael Farrell(St. Basils’ Training centre), Tony Nolan (LES), Helen Donoghue and Bridget Casey (Traveller Representatives).  The group has developed to become a  Steering Committee, which oversees the development and delivery of the programme on an ongoing basis. The Steering Group may be contacted at tel.    01 4664334.
