South Dublin County Council launches Mobhaile

– South Dublin Communities Online

 

Venue : Council Chamber,  County Hall, Tallaght Dublin 24 at 12.00 noon

 

ON Monday 31st May South Dublin's citizens, community and voluntary groups, citizens and local businesses will benefit from easy access to 24 hour information at their fingertips.

 

Mayor Maire Ardagh of South Dublin County Council will launch Mobhaile establishing an online portal website and providing the ability for the Local Authority, Community and Voluntary Organisations and local businesses to communicate with members, interested parties and citizens by means of websites, hosted intranets, and secure email and sms gateways. All information specific to South Dublin County will be categorised by 3 elements – Function; Location; and Time.

 

Communication and spread of information will be enabled by

·         Sharing documents

·         Advertising events

·         Gathering data on expected attendance at functions

·         SMS messaging

·         Receiving payments / subscriptions on line

·         All participants receiving individual email addresses

·         Taking polls

·         Contained within a secure framework this will be developed to manage, entrust and empower users.

·         A Content Management Framework (CMF) will allow each user group to create and maintain websites

·         A secure, robust and spam-free internet mail service will be established to allow each user group to manage email addresses for their members and also to distribute email to interested parties.

 

Mobhaile ( Irish for My Town ) when fully developed and utilised will be the essence of Better service to the public and will mean up to date options for all. It will be a key element of eGovernment in South Dublin, providing a single source for local authority services such as planning applications, traffic information and local area plans, as well as providing a 24 hour guide to local services such as bus times, activities in a local area,  contact details for services, information on local groups and agencies.

 

Commencing at 12.00 on Monday 31st May, the Mayor’s launch will be followed by keynote addresses from the Chair of South Dublin Community Forum, Marie Price-Bolger, by the Chief Executive Officer of South Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Peter Byrne, and a full demonstration of Mobhaile by new Head of IT in South Dublin County Council, Mr Tommy Kavanagh
