Senior Sounds – An opportunity to re-kindle your interest in playing music

“Senior Sounds” is a project that could provide that very same opportunity for you, to partake in making music. Playing music is a special joy and it also helps to maintain mental and physical health. The idea is to create a musical ensemble which will cater for

the over “40s”.

You have often heard the cliché, that life begins at “40”, well in this instant it can begin at fifty, sixty or even seventy. There are no special qualifications needed, only enthusiasm. It can be easy, and it can be fun! As an adult, you have many advantages that can help you learn music, and life experience is one of those. If you played music in

your school days and due to circumstances had to abandon your lessons, here is an opportunity to continue where you left off. If you never had the chance to play an instrument and the desire is still there, this is also an opportunity for you.

The ensemble, to be based in South Dublin County, will be shaped by the interests and experience of the members so you could find yourself as a drummer in a Big Band; a clarinetist playing Mozart/Beatles; a flute trio; a saxophone quartet; a harp orchestra, or

even playing maracas in a concert band, the possibilities are endless. So don’t just sit there and think, could I really ?  Go for it!!!!

“We do not quit playing because we grow old, we grow old because we quit playing”.

This is an ambitious project from Terence Clancy, South Dublin County Council Bursary Award Winner 2003. Terence Clancy MA Dip. M T (Instrumental), is an experienced professional musician/teacher. He has been involved in music in a variety of contexts. He was senior woodwind teacher in the Army School of Music and now works as a peripatetic music teacher visiting a number of primary and secondary schools country

wide. He has just completed a two year project (CADMUS) for Dublin City Council, supported by the Arts Council. This was a development programme for community- based music practice in Dublin. He is also involved with the Menni branch of St. John of Gods, which is based in Exchange Hall, Tallaght, where he works with special needs clients.
