Adamstown – Bord Pleanala Decision 26th September
South Dublin County Council, the Development Agency for the Adamstown SDZ, welcomes the decision of An Bord Pleanala to approve the Planning Scheme for the Adamstown Strategic Development Zone.
The Draft Planning Scheme was subject to detailed examination and scrutiny and South Dublin County Council would like to thank all those who contributed, including in particular the local community, the landowners, agencies such as the Department of Education, Dublin Bus, the Dublin Transportation Office, Irish Rail and of course, An Bord Pleanala.
The approved Planning Scheme is a unique in being one of the most detailed masterplans ever prepared in Ireland. The approved Scheme represents a new and innovative approach to the comprehensive planning and phased development of an area, with infrastructure and facilities to be provided in tandem with housing.
The decision of An Bord Pleanala to approve the Scheme supports the Local Authority’s work and in particular the approach taken to the nature, extent, design and phasing of development.
The modifications required by An Bord Pleanala relate primarily to matters of clarification and detail with regard to phasing.
Significant matters addressed by the Board include the upgrade of a section of the R120 Newcastle Road and completion of the Outer Ring Road as part of phases 1A and 1B respectively. South Dublin County Council fully supports these measures and is happy to comply with the decision of An Bord Pleanala.
As Development Agency, the Council is now looking forward to implementation of the approved Planning Scheme and to working with the local community and landowners in securing a high quality living environment and delivering much needed housing together with supporting facilities and infrastructure including railway station, QBCs, roads, schools, childcare facilities, shops, parks and community buildings. The Council will use all its powers to ensure that the scheme is implemented strictly in accordance with the terms of an Bord Pleanala’s decision, and local residents can be assured that any issues relating to environmental impact will be fully addressed by the Council.
