Máire Nà Chathasaigh is the most influential, interesting & original player of the Irish harp today and was named Irish Traditional Musician of the Year 2001. Chris Newman is one of the UK’s more extraordinary and revered acoustic guitarists. Between them they’ve played in twenty-three countries from the Shetland Islands to New Zealand, from California to Calabria and have given TV and radio performances on five continents. Though rooted in the Irish tradition the eclecticism, emotional range and spirit of adventure of their performances, a breathtaking blend of traditional Irish & Scottish music, hot jazz, bluegrass & baroque, coupled with Máire’s ‘clear, warm & expressive voice’ & Chris’s ‘subversively witty introductions’ ensure a busy touring schedule. Since their debut as a duo at the 1987 Cambridge Folk Festival, they’ve made five critically acclaimed albums together. The Arts Office of South Dublin County Council have arranged a local performance by this highly acclaimed Harp and Guitar duet. Máire and Chris will be playing in the beautiful setting of St Maelruain’s Church of Ireland, Tallaght, on 10th April 2003. The evening will commence at 7.30pm.
