Appointment Of The National Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee
Mr Noel Ahern T.D, Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal today (10 March 2003) announced the appointment of the members of the second National Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee.
The members are:

Mr Chris Flood Chairperson
Ms Kathleen Bonar Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform
Cllr William Callaghan Naas Town Council
Mr Martin Collins Pavee Point Travellers Centre
Cllr Thomas Cunningham Waterford County Council
Mr Alex Fleming Clare County Council
Mr Joe Harrington Department of the Environment and Local Government
Ms Maria Joyce National Traveller Women's Forum
Mr Brendan Kenny Dublin City Council
Ms Ellen Mongan Minister's nominee
Mr Séamus O'Connor Minister's nominee
Ms Gráinne O'Toole Irish Traveller Movement

The principal function of the Committee is to advise the Minister in relation to matters concerning accommodation for Travellers. The Committee was established under the Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act, 1998. The first Committee was appointed in 1999, and its three-year term of office expired in 2002.
The Minister said, “he was confident the new Committee would continue the good work of its predecessor, in facilitating dialogue and understanding between all the parties working to provide good quality accommodation to the highest standard for members of the Traveller community.” The Minister also said, “how pleased he was that Mr Chris Flood, who had a long-standing commitment to the improvement of the living conditions of members of the Traveller community, had agreed to chair the Committee.”
