Mayor Fintan Warfield will officially close the South Dublin County Council Health and Well Being week on Sunday, 5 October at 1.30 pm in Corkagh Park Clondalkin by attending the Laurels Charity Crew run in aid of the Ciaran Carr Foundation.
The run will start and finish at the entrance to Corkagh Park, Clondalkin (St. John’s Estate entrance). There will be family fun activities on the day.
This week has proven to be a great opportunity to demonstrate the power of working in partnership with people to be leaders in looking after their own health.
All the events were booked out in record time which gives us a great indicator the interest that people have in their health and wellbeing. One of the highlights of the week was the Health Literacy Workshop which was attended by Health Care Workers from the HSE.
Healthy Food made Easy proved to be a popular choice with young mothers and the active retired. A number of people participated in the Community Garden workshop in Sean Walsh Park, Tallaght. Demonstrations were given by a local horticulturist on growing seeds and identifying plants.
The idea of Health and Wellbeing has become so important in Irish life today. This was reflected by the number of ambassadors that came forward to be part of the week and become champions for the citizens of South Dublin
Cllr Dermot Looney
Cllr Kenneth Egan
Dr Catherine Darker, Healthy Ireland
Joan Freeman, Chief Executive Pieta House
Senator Eamonn Coghlan
Jason Sherlock – a former Irish Gaelic footballer who played for Dublin
James Reynolds - Irish Transplant Sports Team
- I am delighted to be an Ambassador on behalf of the Healthy Ireland Council. The Council can be commended for putting together a programme that spans all ages and interests. In particular, I attended the Health Literacy workshop that was provided by the National Adult Literacy Agency. The Healthy Ireland Framework, has at its core, a vision where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and wellbeing to their full potential. Local community organisations are essential to this. I think the South Dublin County Council Health and Wellbeing week could be considered a flag ship programme for other Council’s around the country to learn from and provide to their local communities”.
South Dublin County Council will endeavour to embrace the guidelines of the Healthy Ireland Framework 2013-2025. This states “The impact of positive social interaction cannot be underestimated. Social Interaction and supporting social connectedness and involvement in community life are a keystone to empowering people at the individual level and building strong communities for health and wellbeing.”
