Whitechurch National School, Rathfarnham – Raising their 5th Green Flag for Biodiversity

 

The Mayor, Fintan Warfield congratulated Whitechurch National School, Rathfarnham on receiving their Green Schools Flag for Biodiversity as part of the Green Schools Programme supported by South Dublin County Council and An Taisce. They also raised their ‘Active Flag’ and Nora Stapleton from the Woman’s National Rugby Team was there to congratulate them and encourage them to “keep active, whatever the sport you choose”.

 

The Mayor, said “I know it takes cooperation from all members of the school community to achieve this flag. Helping the environment through biodiversity helps us. We are all part of the same eco system and we need to protect it.

 

Whitechurch National School were able to really embrace the biodiversity theme and make use of the wonderful grounds to set up butterfly and bee gardens, bird feeders, bug hotel, log pile and welcome wildlife into the school grounds with the help of their many trees and pond on site.

 

The Mayor continued “The introduction of young students to the theme of biodiversity will stay with them throughout their life”

Whitechurch National School is one of 4 schools in South Dublin County who received their Biodiversity Flag this year. Well done to all.
