Four Dublin Mayors join forces again to combat dog fouling
Dubliners urged to clean up after their dog
Dublin’s four local authorities launched a summer campaign to combat dog fouling at 11am in Newtownsmith, Dun Laoghaire, on Wednesday 25th June.
New dog fouling signage across the four local authorities is being launched highlighting the need for dog owners to cleanup after their dogs. The new signage emphasises the health risks associated with dog fouling, the cost to dog owners who do not clean up after their dogs and appeals to dog owners to “leave only paw prints”.
Present at the launch in Newtownsmith, Dun Laoghaire was Lord Mayor of Dublin Christy Burke, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr. Marie Baker, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Mags Murray, and Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr. Fintan Warfield.
The campaign shows how committed the four authorities are to working together to address the dog fouling problem which affects streets, parks and open spaces across Dublin city and county.
Dublin’s four local authorities continue to work together for a new campaign to sort out the problem of dog fouling in streets and parks across Dublin County. This follows on from the hotline number for Dubliners to report dog fouling issues - 1800 251 500 which was launched in November last year..
“Cleaning up after your dog is part of a dog owner’s responsibility” said Mayor South Dublin County Fintan Warfield. “As more people are enjoying the outdoors – our wonderful parks and open spaces – dog owners need to ‘Bin the Poo’. Dogfouling is litter and subject to a €150 on the spot fine but it also has greater environmental and public health consequences. If not cleaned up and disposed of appropriately, dog faeces can cause serious medical problems such as Toxocara, leading to sight loss in children. My message to dog owners is “leave only paw-prints”.
