St Mary’s NS, Greenhills - Raising their 4th Green Flag for Travel in the sun

The newly elected Mayor, Fintan Warfield was delighted to attend at St Mary’s National School, Greenhills, to congratulate them on receiving their 4th Green Schools Flag for Travel as part of the Green Schools Programme supported by South Dublin County Council and An Taisce.
The Mayor said “ It involves a huge commitment from all involved to achieve this flag. The teachers ,the parents, the principal Pat Egan the Green Schools coordinator Naomi Moran and the caretaker José, who assisted the green schools committee and all the students to make this happen.”
St Mary’s N S increased the number of children walking to school by a massive 44%. In addition their Park and Stride initiative resulted in an increase of 70%. Naomi Moran thanked Lidl nearby who provide the parking for their ‘park and stride’ initiative and everyone for their help in making this day possible.
The Mayor continued “Lots of effort was made by all the staff to include the travel theme as part of the curriculum, producing graphs in Math, poems in English and the fantastic green code to the music of ‘walking on sunshine’”
The children performed their song ‘We’re Walking on Wednesdays Whoooah!’ for the Mayor and special guests including members of the Board of Management..” A great day was had by all.
