A big cheer for Solas Chriost NS, Belgard, Tallaght who get their 1st Green Schools Flag for Litter and Waste - 17th June 2014
The Deputy Mayor, Mick Duff congratulated Solas Chriost National School on receiving their Green Schools Flag for Litter & Waste as part of the Green Schools Programme supported by South Dublin County Council and An Taisce.
The Mayor, said “Taking part in the Green Schools Programme involves a lot of hard work, you should all be very proud and enjoy this day celebrating the raising of your 1st green flag. To reduce the number of bags going to landfill by 50 % is a fantastic achievement.”
The principal Edward Kelly was so proud of the schools achievement. Solas Chriost NS carries out spot checks on the bins in each class to make sure the correct bins are being used. They also have litter monitors who scan the yard on a regular basis for litter.
It was a fantastic day. The sun shone and everyone enjoying the event.
Solas Chriost National School is one of 8 schools in South Dublin County who received their 1st green flag under this programme and join 94 other schools, all of whom proudly fly the green flag for protecting the environment.
