Official Launch of National Bike Week:

Official opening of new pedestrian and cycle greenway at Park Avenue, Grange Road, Rathfarnham

The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Fintan Warfield will launch National Bike Week in South Dublin County on the 16th of June at 11.30am with the official opening of a new pedestrian and cycle greenway. This route will provide a new link from South Dublin to Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown. The event will take place at Park Avenue, Grange Road, Rathfarnham.

The ceremony will mark the opening of a new permeability project by South Dublin County Council, funded by the National Transport Authority, which provide links to local facilities for residential communities.

Mayor Fintan Warfield said “given its attractive, off road setting, the new greenway has significant potential for connecting communities, providing access to amenities and local facilities as well as commuter cycling”.

In addition to improving the physical infrastructure with the support of the National Transport Authority, South Dublin County Council is working with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to develop the route further by linking to the Slang River Greenway that runs from Marlay Park to Dundrum.

Notes to Editor:

South Dublin County Council secured funding from the National Transport Authority under the Sustainable Transport Measures Grants programme and delivered the new route, working in close partnership with Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council during the project. Aecom Ltd. acted as consulting engineers for the project and Coffey Group constructed the route over the past few months.
