St Brigids JNS, Brookfield - Green Schools Flag for Energy conservation

The Deputy Mayor, Mick Duff congratulated St Brigid’s Junior National School on receiving their Green Schools Flag for Energy as part of the Green Schools Programme supported by South Dublin County Council and An Taisce.

The Deputy Mayor, said “Taking part in the Green Schools Programme involves a lot of hard work, but it is so worthwhile and you should all be very proud of what you have done to reduce energy consumption. It involved commitment and constant reminder until it becomes second nature to ‘turn of’ when not in use.”

St Brigid’s JNS reduced their electricity usage by 10% and heating by 15%. They also check each classroom during break to ensure the lights, computers and whiteboards are switched off and doors closed every day.

The Army No 1 Band was on hand to make the day one to remember and everyone enjoyed the celebrations. When the flag was raised accompanied by members of the army band there was a fabulous cheer.

St Brigid’s was one of 37 schools in South Dublin County who received a green school flags for protecting the environment for - Litter & Waste, Energy, Water, Travel, Biodiversity and Global Citizenship.

Photo 2 shows the Green Flag raised outside the school. In the picture students who were members of the Green Schools committee, the Green Schools co-ordinators Deirdre Quinn and Sinead Gaskin and Deputy Mayor Cllr Mick Duff.
