Mayor Dermot Looney officially opens the new Tymon Athletic Sports Clubs

(TASC) Pavilion in Tymon Park, on Friday 9th May 2014.

Mayor Dermot Looney was in Tymon Park on the 9th May to preside over the official opening ceremony for the new TASC Pavilion. Mayor Looney said “I am delighted and honoured to be here today to officially open this wonderful facility. The Pavilion is a long cherished ambition of the Council and of the clubs that use this section of Tymon Park. The genesis of the project was originally put forward by the Limekiln Rounders Club back in 1997 but the project as it developed has now morphed into a room for the Limekiln Rounders Club, dressing rooms for the soccer clubs and the rugby club and storage and other facilities for the Working Trials Club of Ireland who undertake dog training in the park. I have worked for several years with Limekiln Rounders to advance the project and am glad that they now have a place to call home on our doorstep in Dublin 12".

Tymon Park is a wonderful example of this and a great achievement of the Council and the various groups that have had an involvement in its continuous development since it was planned in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The work in any park is never finished. It is constantly changing, whether it is in response to new issues such as climate change, the health agenda for adults and children or the provision of new facilities for the community as a whole. For example the Council in the past 3 years has provided in this and in other parks a range of exercise equipment which has been enthusiastically received by the community.

Mayor Looney also acknowledged in his speech the support received from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport who provided significant funding for the construction of the Pavilion through the Sports Capital Grants Scheme. The Mayor also outlined South Dublin Council’s commitment to promoting and delivering high quality facilities and amenities in our Parks, which support a healthy lifestyle through active and passive recreation. The Council wants to encourage sport and recreation by developing tailored programmes and facilities that target specific groups in the communities of South Dublin County.

The Mayor concluded that “the work on this project, even if the building is complete, is only starting. The Pavilion has a Building Management System (BMS) incorporated into the facility which will help reduce running costs, allow use and services to be monitored, and has the potential to optimise the shared usage of all spaces for the clubs involved. The lessons learnt from the construction, the BMS system, and the uses that the building will provide to local groups will contribute significantly to the future development of other facilities throughout the county”.
