Official opening of the Park Community Centre, a bright, modern centre at the heart of the Community

The Park Community Centre was officially opened by Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Dermot Looney on the 1st of May 2014.

The opening sees the culmination of several years of hard work and consultation between South Dublin County Council and the local community with the support of the Elected Members of the Council.

Construction works commenced back in August 2012 and the new Community Centre was handed over to the local community in July 2013, providing a modern facility for a range of local and community groups.

South Dublin County Council have made an investment of just over €1 million in the construction of the centre, providing the local community with a state of the art facility including a large hall, divisible in two with a folding partition, an office / reception area, meeting room, toilets and a small café opening onto the south facing courtyard. The building has also been designed to encompass a number of energy conservation measures, including a Geothermal Heat Pump and Collector, which uses heat from the water in the adjacent lake located in the park to help heat the entire building (via the underfloor heating system) and provide the hot water.

Speaking at the event Mayor Dermot Looney said “South Dublin County Council has invested a huge amount of effort, time and finances over the recent years to provide a network of modern community centres which are bright, attractive, high quality and purpose built and the Park Community Centre is the latest of these”

South Dublin County Council has also provided direct funding assistance to the centre to help with the fit out and purchase of equipment for the centre activities and has also provided a grant to assist with the employment of a part-time Centre Manager.

The building is managed by a local voluntary management committee made up of local residents and provides a wide range of activities for all sections of the local community, both young and old. These activities include yoga, pilates, parent and toddler group, youth group, social group for older people, zumba, ballet dance, computer gaming for kids, self defence and many more.

Further information on the centre is available from the South Dublin County Council’s Community Services Department on 01 4149270 or by contacting the centre directly on 01 4620042, by email at theparkcc@yahoo.ie or checking out the Centre’s Facebook page.
